Jesus took the sins of the world upon himself by being baptized by John the Baptist (Mathew 3:15)this baptism that Jesus received from John was to bear all the iniquities of the people of this world .That’s why John in the first place not knowing the idea behind this said to Jesus “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” John was the representative of mankind in this .There are some people, who misunderstood the baptism of Jesus and mistakenly think that He was baptized to show us His humility, but this is not the case; the baptism that Jesus received from John is the work of salvation through which He took the sins of mankind upon Himself. 1 John 5:4-6 tells us that Jesus’ baptism was and is essential to our salvation. 1 Peter 3:21 “The like figure where unto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:”
The baptism of Jesus, the suffering and crucifixion on the cross; all were part of the salvation plan in Christ’s ministry. 1 John 3:23 “And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment”.
What is it that every one in this world ought to be the most? It is to become the sinless children of God , the Bible tells us that for us to become so , we must believe in the word that Jesus paid our price and blotted out all our sins and iniquities through His being baptized , suffering and shedding blood on the cross. The gates of heaven have been opened a long time ago, but if we fail to believe in the word of God Jesus Christ and live by it, we won’t enter in!
